Giving Day

What and when is Lifeline Queensland's Giving Day?

add remove

Giving Day is a 24-hour online fundraising challenge where we call on our Queensland community to uplift Lifeline suicide prevention and support services in our own backyard. This year's Giving Day will take place on Thursday 30 May 2024.

Where does my donation go?

add remove

Your gift will go towards Lifeline's crisis support and suicide prevention services run by 10 centres right here in Queensland.

What is matched giving? How does my donation make double the difference?

add remove

Donations are being matched by generous donors and partners of Lifeline Queensland until the end of Giving Day, or until the funds they've dedicated are exhausted, whichever is sooner.

This means that if a partner has chosen to match up to $20,000 on Giving Day, donations made by people like you will be matched dollar for dollar until the $20,000 has been exhausted, or Giving Day has ended.

So, if for example, you make a gift of $100 on Giving Day and matching is available, Lifeline Queensland will receive an additional $100, doubling your support.

Can I donate another way like over the phone or through my bank?

Lifeline Queensland's Fundraising

Why and how do Lifeline Queensland fundraise?

add remove

Lifeline Queensland fundraise in a range of ways that allow us to reach the greatest number of people, including individuals, families, organisations and local communities who want to help make their communities safe from suicide. We appreciate the money, time and heart anyone is able to give in support of our 24-hour crisis support and suicide prevention services.

We receive funds from:

  • Extraordinary people – compassionate folks who choose to give a one-off donation when they can or include a gift in their Will, our Community Circle of monthly giving supporters, our community fundraising event participants, those who choose to shop in our stores, at our events or online, and those who sign up for training with us.
  • corporate partners
  • state and federal government
  • trusts, foundations and grants

We fundraise:

  • online (through emails, social media and our websites)
  • over the phone
  • by sending mail
  • in our stores
  • at events

If you’re ever unsure if a fundraiser is legitimate, give our Supporter Experience team a call on 1800 961 881 or email us at [email protected].

Do Lifeline Queensland use telephone fundraising?

add remove

Yes, we do use telephone fundraising. This type of fundraising allows us to raise money in a cost-effective way, as well as engage in thousands of conversations with supporters of Lifeline Queensland.

This form of fundraising gives more people the opportunity to ask questions about our work and discuss the different ways in which they can support Lifeline’s services here in Queensland.

We will only call you if you’ve given us consent to do so. We do not take part in ‘cold’ calling. However, if you no longer wish to receive calls from us, are unsure whether a call you’ve received is legitimate or if you’re unhappy with any aspect of a call that you have received, please contact our Supporter Experience team on 1800 961 881 or at [email protected].

We work with a professional, ethical tele-fundraising agency called Clever Contacts. We are currently running a few telephone fundraising campaigns with Clever Contacts at this time.

Together, we ensure that:

  • all fundraisers have intensive training and receive regular briefing sessions to ensure that they are working to best practice and to the charity’s guidelines set out by the ACNC and FIA.
  • we regularly monitor and review all tele-fundraising calls to ensure we’re respecting and understanding the people we talk to.
  • any agency we work with complies with the Australian Privacy Principles, as well other relevant State legislation, when dealing with your personal information.

Our professional tele-fundraisers are paid to fundraise on our behalf. However, 100% of all donations given in support of Lifeline Queensland are used to develop and run Lifeline’s vital support and suicide prevention services. Our fundraising costs are covered by UnitingCare services in Queensland that have fees associated with them, and investments like any other business.

Our fundraisers and our partners at Clever Contacts are required to follow rules set out by the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission (ACNC) and are members of the Fundraising Institute of Australia. We want to make sure you feel informed and empowered with the way you choose to give and never feel pressured to give if you are unable to. We want everyone’s experience with Lifeline Queensland to be the best possible experience while we raise funds for life-saving services.

How do I check if any type of fundraising request I've received from Lifeline Queensland is a scam?

Lifeline Queensland is a registered Australian charity under UnitingCare Community as part of UnitingCare Queensland. We follow all fundraising and government legislation.

If you see, read or hear something that you think isn’t quite right and want to check it with us – we’d definitely like to know too – reach out to our Supporter Experience team on 1800 961 881 or [email protected].

What's the difference Lifeline Queensland and Lifeline Australia?

add remove

Lifeline Queensland is one of 17 members of a network providing vital Lifeline community-based programs and outreach initiatives across Australia.

In Queensland we deliver Lifeline's 13 11 14 Lifeline Crisis Support Line, available 24/7, through 10 Lifeline centres – providing confidential suicide prevention services with a non-judgmental and compassionate listening ear. We also offer text messages, and online chat services 24/7.

We also provide a range of other services in the community, such as Lifeline Community Recovery, with teams ready and able to provide face-to-face support following a natural disaster.

Our Lifeline Training services also help organisations, groups and individuals create mentally healthy workplaces and communities. And since young people often turn to their peers first in difficult times, we provide Peer Skills training on the skills, knowledge and strategies needed to give effective support in times of need.

Can I still give even if I don't have money?

add remove

If your hearts in it and you want to give back to your community, there are many ways you can get involved. Giving Day is about raising funds for suicide prevention and crisis support services – the reason for this day is to make sure Lifeline Queensland to be there for anyone who needs it. So if you're not in a position to give money directly, that's ok. You can still help us be there by fundraising your own way and encouraging others to donate, using social media to help spread the word about Giving Day, joining us as a volunteer Crisis Supporter or donating goods to your local Lifeline shop. If you can show generosity and share kindness, you have something to give!
