Notice the small things today. The warmth of the first cup of tea. The particular hush of early morning before the world wakes up. The way a magpie carols from the back fence, as though the day genuinely matters.
These moments are not indulgent. They are how we stay well.
Distress rarely arrives all at once. More often it builds quietly — one long week stacked on another, until the weight is simply there and you can’t quite remember when it wasn’t.
We get so practised at caring for everyone else. The work. The family. The friend who needs us. Ourselves, somehow, always last.
But you can’t pour from an empty cup. You already know this. The harder part is believing you’re allowed to refill.
So here’s your permission. Rest is not laziness.
A walk is not wasted time. Saying no to one more thing is not letting anyone down — it’s making sure there’s something left of you for the things that matter most.
Connection helps, too. A real conversation. A message to someone who gets it. The simple relief of being heard without having to perform being fine. None of it has to be big. It just has to be true.
You give so generously to others. To the people you love, and to a community of strangers you’ll never meet, who are helped because of you.
Today, give a little of that same kindness back to yourself. You’re worth the same care you so freely offer everyone else.
